Ravensworth Shell plans a makeover

The owner of the Ravensworth Shell gas station at the Ravensworth Shopping Center is seeking county approval to convert its vehicle repair shop to a convenience store.

The gas station, at 8011 Braddock Road, has four vehicle service bays and six fuel pumps.

Ravensworth Shell Capital Services Inc. is also proposing architectural upgrades, including brick veneer, glass windows and doors, and a gabled metal roof with a small tower. The current building was constructed in 1967 and renovated in 1984.

Both the fuel pumps and convenience store would operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Overall daily trips are expected to increase from the current 3,128 trips to 4,033 and would be spread out throughout the day and evening hours.

The Fairfax County Planning Commission has scheduled a hearing on the proposal for May 11.

  1. If the entrance to the store itself is on the garage bay side of the building it would not be an issue. Having people stop specifically for the convenience store entering on the gas pump side poses an issue because of the limited space for egress and flow of traffic.

  2. Sorry to hear you are planning to dismantle the great repair shop. 7-11 is 30 yards from the gas station and seems redundant to provide a similar service. The inspection lines are often long at the end of the month for those services.

  3. +It is so convenient to get your car inspected and if repairs are needed to have the repairs done there. We already have a convenience shop
