Real Food for Kids, an organization that promotes healthy food for schoolchildren, launched the Chefs Feeding Families initiative last month to provide free meals to children in need and families affected by job losses while schools are closed during the coronavirus pandemic.
This weekend, the program expands to the Annandale area, in collaboration with Pizzeria Paradiso. Whole grain veggie pizzas will be available every weekend at these locations:
- The ACCA Child Development Center, 7200 Columbia Pike, Saturdays, beginning April 11.
- John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 6531 Columbia Pike, Sundays, beginning April 12.
The pizza giveaways start at 2:30 p.m. both days and will continue until supplies last.
Among other food resources in the community, Fairfax County Public Schools is handing out free meals for children every weekday at a long list of schools, bus stops, and other sites.
The Annandale Christian Community for Action operates a food pantry, with volunteers delivering food to individuals and families referred by social workers and churches. To request food, contact Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning, 703-222-0880.
