Attention runners of all abilities and ages: Be sure to register for the Taste of Annandale 5K Race before the fees goes up. Sign up online.

Taste of Annandale 5K Race is a special feature of the fifth annual Taste of Annandale street festival on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. in the former Kmart parking lot at 4251 John Marr Drive.

The Taste of Annandale 5K is certified by USA Track & Field (certificate #17034RT).

Registration is $25 and rises to $30 after Sept. 15. The fee is $15 for runners age 14 and younger and rises to $20 after Sept. 15. (A $2.50 signup fee is added to all registrations.)

The course is virtually the same as last year. Runners will head along Columbia Pike, through the trails in Mason District Park, and return to the Kmart parking lot.

Need some practice for the 5K? Sign up for the Mason District Running Festival Sept. 28 in Mason District Park. There are six different events, ranging from a one-mile fun run for kids to a six-hour course for hardcore runners.

The top three males and females overall in the Taste of Annandale 5K will receive awards, along with the fastest runners in several age categories.

After the race, runners are encouraged to stick around for lunch at the Taste of Annandale, along Tom Davis Drive. The festival features food trucks, restaurants, live music and dance, a beer garden, children’s programming, a best-dressed pet contest, chili cook-off, photo booth, law enforcement display, and more.

Be sure to stay for the aerial dance performance by Monarca in Flight, tentatively scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Taste of Annandale title sponsors are the Vistas of Annandale and Lambros Goldsmith.

Proceeds from the Taste of Annandale support a youth art initiative.
