Hodge Place, just off Route 50 in Falls Church, a temporary fire station will be set up on a commercially zoned vacant site
at the corner of Annandale Road and South Street.
Renovations are expected to start in June 2017 at the earliest and would take 18 to 24 months. The temporary building would be installed in January 2017 and would be removed after the new fire station is completed. Funding for the project was in a public safety bond approved by
voters in 2012.
The new fire station would be 17,000 square feet, which is 3,000
square feet larger than the existing building, said Allison Terzigni, project
manager in the Fairfax County Building Design and Construction Division, at the November meeting of the Mason District Land Use Committee.

The new building would have a larger two-level residential
area for firefighters, more space for female personnel, a larger gym,
and more space for vehicles, including a technical rescue support unit.

The new station would have drive-through bays for the fire
trucks, which would require a new access point on Woodley Lane. Currently, vehicles have to back into the building. Because the
site is small, only 1.2 aces, the buffer between the station and nearby houses
would likely be reduced; a wall is planned as well as a stormwater retention facility.

Is there any additional information available about the temporary location? Is it the forested lot at the SE corner? If so, will they be replanting it after they tear down the temporary station?
Yes, that's the only undeveloped corner at that intersection. Don't know about the trees, but wouldn't be surprised if something else is built there after the temporary building is taken down.
I'd like to see a new facility built there too. Station 28(Seven Corners)is at its 40-year mark in 2016 now and it would also be good if a bigger facility was built so Falls Church HS could have EMS standby at football games because they're right close by too.
I'm sure that the new station will be far superior but I'll be sorry to see the old place go. My entire family were connected to 18 when I was a kid in the 60s. My dad, uncles, cousins all were volunteers as was my maternal grandfather. My dad met my mom thru that connection! Bingo nights and wedding receptions in the Ember Room, the annual Christmas Party for the neighborhood kids… Sorry to see it go.
James, any idea of a station or place to hold reception events nearby to station 18? I called them and they said they don’t have any open rental space.
