Resident arrested for animal cruelty

A witness called the police Aug. 29 about 10 a.m. to report a dog left in the rear of a pickup truck in full sunlight with no water at the Home Depot at 6555 Little River Turnpike, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

Animal Protection Police arrived and monitored the dog for over an hour. Shortly after the dog was taken into custody, the owner returned. Kinga Bullert-Niesen, 33, of Annandale, was issued a summons for cruelty to animals. The dog was checked by a veterinary doctor and determined to be in good health. [The temperature was about 87 degrees that morning.]

In another recent crime, someone stole the cash register from the Pho Anh Duong Restaurant at 7866 Heritage Drive, Annandale, on Aug. 30. A security company reported that an alarm was activated at about 1:50 a.m. When police arrived, they found the back door was open and the cast register was missing. The theft was caught on a security camera. The suspect was a man in a white hoodie, jeans, and white shoes.

  1. I'm glad to hear that no one (including the dog) was harmed. Seriously, people–how dumb and/or cruel do you need to be to leave a child or pet in a hot car? Get a clue!

  2. The dog was left in the back of a pick up truck. I imagine if parked under a tree and with water, that would have been okay. The fact that it was over an HOUR seems crazy.
