Resident rescued from house fire
Firefighters rescued an occupant trapped in a bedroom during a house fire on Aug. 5 in the 4900 block of Grafton Street in Lincolnia. When fire crews arrived shortly after 3 a.m., smoke and fire were visible on the second floor.
The fire was six feet from the occupant’s bedroom, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports. The resident closed the door, and there was no sign of fire, heat, or smoke in her second-floor bedroom. Crew rescued the occupant via a ground ladder unharmed. Two other occupants got out of the house before the fire department arrived.
The cause of the fire was an electrical event involving an extension cord from a power strip to the refrigerator. Damages are estimated at $9,000.
According to the FCFRD, it’s important to “close before you doze.” Closed doors reduce fire growth, limit damage, keep temperatures down, and “can even save your life if you become trapped.”
