Residents fed up with litter build-up

Some members of the Parklawn community are concerned about a growing amount of litter covering school yards and along roadways. Mollie Loeffler, president of the Parklawn Civic Association, along with other neighborhood representatives, urged Mason Supervisor Penny Gross and state Del. Kaye Korey do something about the litter problem.
The association has been organizing trash clean-ups and used funds from a Fairfax Neighborhood Enhancement grant last year to create an anti-litter campaign. The association is offering to lend its anti-litter materials to schools and neighborhood groups that need help combating litter.
Loeffler took these photos, showing litter piling up around Lincolnia Road, Columbia Pike, Braddock Road, and nearby areas.

One response to “Residents fed up with litter build-up

  1. There seems to be litter piling up everywhere. A suggestion I would have would be for the association to contact the local cub and boy scouts (and probably girl scouts) in the area. Those groups do community service projects all the time. In fact, this past Monday my 2nd grade cub scout was out collecting litter around his circle in order to fulfill a requirement. His pack has done litter cleanups a number of times. We find litter everywhere and tend to focus around the school where we meet but if there were places that had a greater need, it would be good to know. Older boy scouts also have community service requirements.
