Restoration of Luria Park boardwalk to start soon
Renovations of the boardwalk at Luria Park in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County are expected to start within the next month, and the project is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.
The contractor, Accubid Construction Co., will demolish approximately 80 feet of the existing boardwalk, construct a new prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge over Holmes Run, and build a new boardwalk connecting Luria Park with Holmes Run Stream Valley Park. Funding for the $196,000 project comes from a 2008 park bond.
During construction, access to Luria park from Holmes Run Drive in the Holmes Run Acres neighborhood will be blocked and part of the existing trail will be closed. The trail ends at Fallowfield Drive in Raymondale. Another trail to the north crosses Holmes Run between Holly Berry Court and Camp Alger Avenue.
According to an announcement from the Fairfax County Park Authority, the renovations are being carried out “in response to public suggestions and sentiments expressed at recent public meetings.”
My question is why did it take 5 years to get this on the schedule. If the taxpayers gave their approval for the bond in 2008, what has the Park Authority been doing with the funds until now? Funding all their deputy pensions I suppose.
