Scene Around A-Town: Green Spring wildlife
A heron (?) of some sort at Green Spring Gardens yesterday. Anyone know what this is? The springs at Green Springs are really green.

Great Blue Heron…we are lucky to have such a beautiful place so close to us.
I think it is a blue heron. Saw the same bird (type at least) in my backyard around 6 PM yesterday. I live about 1 mi from greenspring. Their usual habit is around bodies of water (see them frequently at Lake Accotink), so not sure what it was doing in my back yard.
Thank goodness for Green Springs. It is a real jewel. Just keep VDOT off the property before they make the facility pay $10k for bringing nature back to Mason District.
Better yet, everyone, please remember to vote FOR the Park bond referendum…let's help keep the GREEN we all enjoy!
