Shots fired outside The Block
Police responded to reports of a large fight in the parking lot by the collection of food vendors, states an item in the FCPD blotter. An investigation determined that a man had displayed a handgun while the party was dispersing and then fired several shots. No one was injured.
The suspect was described as white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a blue and white jacket and skinny jeans.
UPDATED, April 20: A representative of The Block called on April 19 to dispute this account, He said there was a fight following a birthday party but no shots were fired and the police didn’t find any casings. The proprietors are trying to keep The Block a family-friendly place and are worried reports about the incident on social media are having a negative impact.
An FCPD spokesperson contacted on April 20 confirmed that the event took place as originally reported by the police and that a shell casing was found. That spokesperson said the suspect fired shots randomly as he ran away around the corner and did not appear to be trying to hit anyone. He picked up the casings before fleeing on a motorcycle.
There was another recent shooting in Annandale that was not reported in the police blotter because the victim was not cooperative and there are few details. This incident happened during a party at the Ara Fusion Restaurant at 7137 Little River Turnpike at about 2 a.m. on April 16.
According to the FCPD: Someone ran across the street from Ara to a gas station where two officers happened to be at the time and said someone was shot. When police arrived, everyone started running in all directions. A witness told police there had been “a large crowd of light-skinned Asian or Hispanic males.” Officers located evidence of a shooting. A man who had been shot in the foot was treated for minor injuries. He refused to talk to the police. This incident appears to be gang related, although it’s FCPD policy not to disclose gang involvement in connection with crimes.
More bad news for for Annandale. Terrible.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Thats it. Second shooting in 48 hours in downtown Annandale. Call in the cops from their palace up Columbia Tpke, bring in ICE to clean out the apartments on 236 and Make Annandale Great Again!
If the subject was white, they might have been an immigrant but it is not as likely.. so this most likely cannot be blamed on illegal immigration.
Yes, let's call ICE and DEPORT this WHITE GUY back to his country, OH WAIT there is NO SUCH THINGS as Downtown Annandale.
no such thing as downtown annandale? what do you call the 236/hummer to evergreen area? it is the commercial center of town, therefore, downtown.
What was the other shooting?
Adam if you go on the Next Door app, there was a separate shooting shortly after at 2 AM Saturday night, the 15th.
5-6 shots were heard and the time confirmed by many posters. There was also a loud motorcycle heard leaving the scene as well as police sirens.
Separate incident from the Block
Thanks anonymous. I'm sure ICE will help find the suspect who is white and 5'9. Probably another one of those French illegal immigrants.
Wait, I forgot, this is Penny Gross's fault too.
I'll take really good fantasy football team names for a thousand Alex.
This really sucks, I love that place. I don't think it'll change me going there though, I'm usually part of the early crowd.
Oh come now! Brawling is a sign of a burgeoning night life in Annandale! Moving on up! We've got a few good late night places – why not a few more? Of course there will be more riff-raff after dark, that is a given.
I completely agree with ANON 8:12
The hipsters and city kids from Arlington are coming here in droves, driving up rents, home values- whats next Whole Foods?!
We've lost sight of who we really are- a semi-suburban, seedy underbelly of tax-evading, cash only, semi-underground/off the books businesses!
It's just balancing out!
I was only half sarcastic. We really do have several places that service a lively, young nightlife crowd, and we could use more.
Annandale unfortunately has become a host to the lowest denominators. That is because we have a local declining economy, a weakening tax base, an increase in social services, poor mass transit options, declining infrastructure, a middle class flight to other areas with better school districts, declining housing stock and an uptick on boarding houses, an overload of section 8 housing; and a County District Supervisor that has become so disconnected that she would not know how to plug in if a power outlet was right in front of her.
Anonymous 810, unfortunately, you just described a large portion of the D.C. Metro area. It isn't an "Annandale" issue, nor is Annandale the home of "the lowest denominators," a decidedly racist comment. The influx of diverse populations to any area will bring challenges. Some communities benefit from the diversity and actually form a true community. Others become devisive, combative, and racist, ultimately resulting in people existing in the same space, not neighbors caring for their town. By the way – those better school districts you mentioned? Please let me know where they are as I'm a teacher and maybe I'm missing something. Last I knew, and for more than 30 years, Fairfax County Public Schools have been in the top ten public school districts in the nation. Stop complaining and blaming. If you live in Annandale, step up. If not, don't bother coming to our town to spend your money here to aid our declining economy and our weakened tax base. Might be too dangerous for you since we have so many boarding houses and section 8 housing. White privilege much?
9:30: Nailed it! Extremely well put; thank you for organizing my thoughts into your words!
The writer said lowest common denominator, you automatically put the entire diverse human race in that bucket. There is a big difference between diversity and garbage. Sounds like you are the one that needs to go back to school. Hope your not teaching in my kid's school.
YO TEACH! A large portion of the DC METRO area you are referring to that is under "the lowest denominator" is across the river ex: PG COUNTY…. Portions of Montgomery. On this side of the river you have some of the most affluent and higher income areas in the nation. However, we are in one of those pockets of problems where we have over loaded our system. You know its the apartment buildings in Annandale where these folks have 2x the occupancy than normal. While you are at work teaching(thank god for your service – seriously) 236 has about 50 -75 hanging out on the sides of the road looking for laborer work. Where is ICE to interview these guys, and then…. where is the county to walk up to them and say gee we have unemployment insurance you can collect while you wait here to find work. Just contact Richmond. However, why can't they collect this insurance….. bingo – no citizenship.
I am so glad you mentioned you were in the school system….. FCPS is overtaxed. Try this? Pull up the data from the FCPS website and look at the demographics, and free / reduced lunch numbers for our beloved Annandale H.S. (who is nominating their orchestra teacher for teach of the year!). Look at the numbers for Falls Church H.S. and Jeb Stuart H.S. then…. look at the numbers for Langley, Madison, Woodson. Schools are the cornerstones to our neighborhoods.

What will you see? A: Over 50% of the students say they can't afford to eat and need free sports and parking permits. or B: they are outright lying on their forms their parents fill out and this is a huge fleecing of federal and local tax revenue.
It should piss you off more when you know that what is being taken out of your check is going' down the drain, when we need to just need to rip off the band-aid and adjust the population to what this area and infrastructure is designed to handle.
Notice how many Maryland license plates are circulating around Annandale lately? Why do you think this is? It must be for something were doing right? :- / So stepping up….. how? by giving more money to programs that just attract more folks from the south of the border and across the river? Or by using venues like this to say enough is enough? If you teach in Arlington or Alexandria I know you are making 10k more a year than FCPS teachers, and I can't blame you if you left FCPS for those districts.
Hey Anonymous, three word for you : Get a life. Stop being a debbie downer
