Peace Lutheran Church in Lincolnia invites the public to a silent auction next Saturday. Community members will have an opportunity to bid on some great items while enjoying live music and supporting refugees from Afghanistan.

The event is March 15, 1-4 p.m., at 6362 Lincolnia Road.

Peace Lutheran has a longstanding relationship with the local Afghan community. It provides space in its building to ReAct DC, a nonprofit organization that helps resettle Afghan refugees.

ReAct DC also provides legal services and empowerment classes, including English language lessons to women whose husbands supported the U.S. military. The organization has not been paid for work it completed under a federal contract.

The auction features handicrafts, baskets of goodies, art classes, restaurant coupons, framed art, babysitting, items sewn by Afghan women, vacation rentals, and much more.

If you can’t come but still want to help, you can make a donation directly to ReAct DC online.

  1. I saw the masks in the picture and thought… that’s odd that they are all wearing masks outside. So I looked at their website, and on the About Us page, there is not one mention of Jesus or Christ. There is mention of diversity, and no racism.

I find this shift in the church and many denominations to be fascinating as it supports Kendi’s work against anti-racism.

    1. “What binds us together is God’s reconciling and forgiving love, revealed most perfectly in Jesus Christ.” is directly from the About Us section of the page. Don’t bear false witness.

      1. I think Mr. Stevens meant there is no mention of Christ in the Who We Are section, which is the first section.

I agree it’s odd that Christ is not mentioned until the second section “Our Beliefs” on the About Us page. Why does He get second billing under diversity?

        1. With all the wolves parading in public claiming to be the Best Christians Ever, why are you willing to pick a nit like this with people who are actually putting their faith into action to help those in need?

In the first section they specify that they’re Lutherans. Do they have to spell it out for you, or are you and Adam looking to cuff and interrogate someone?
