Last spring, when a group of local business owners put
forth the idea of developing a skate plaza on a small unused lot between the
Annandale Volunteer Fire Station and the Annandale Christian Community for Action building on Columbia Pike, Mason Supervisor Penny Gross suggested hosting a temporary “skate event” to see
whether there would be enough interest among local skateboarders for having a
skate plaza here.

That event will be happening on Oct. 6, 2:30-5:30 p.m.,
in the fire station parking lot. “Skate Annandale” will have temporary rails,
ramps, and jumps provided by American Inline. This free event is open to
skaters of all ages and skill levels. Participants are encouraged to provide
their own safety equipment.

It would be great if we can get a big crowd to this
event, so spread the word.

I say everyone get out there and show our support for our local kids and let the local supervisor know that people are interested in taking an old unused vacant overgrown trashed lot and turning it into a nice park. The recommendation was not just a skate park but to have a pavilion where local events could take place. How nice would that be for the kids to have a local place they can walk/ bike/ skate to and hang out with their friends and get exercise. A place where locals families can sit on a bench sit at a table and enjoy a once vacant lot. It seems all positive to me.
How about a small playground for kids at this park? Put a skate park in the larger park (like Mason District park)There is no playground for young kids in this area. Im all for a skate part in Mason District….just move one of the playgrounds from Mason District to this annandale location.
