Small businesses and non profits have just one week to apply for Fairfax RISE grants

Restaurants forced to close during the pandemic urge people to take advantage of carryout options.

Small business owners and the heads of nonprofit organizations can begin applying for Fairfax RISE grants of up to $20,000 on Monday, June 8. The application period closes June 15.

To be eligible, applicants must have a physical location in Fairfax County; at least one full-time, paid employee before March 1, 2020; and a business, professional, and occupational license for at least a year.

RISE grants can be used for wages and benefits, working capital, equipment inventory, rent, and other critical operating expenses.
The $25 million RISE (Relief Initiative to Support Employers) program was approved by the Board of Supervisors in May to help small businesses and nonprofits harmed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Funding comes from the federal CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act.
At least 30 percent of the grant funds, $7.5 million, will be awarded to businesses owned by women, minorities, or veterans.
The Fairfax County Office of Economic Success is hosting a webinar on the RISE program June 9, 11 a.m.-noon. Call 415-655-0003. Access code: 161 180 4501. Register here.
