Snow Day Camp offered at Audrey Moore RECenter
With more snow predicted, parents have an alternative to missing work on a snow day: The Fairfax County Park Authority is hosting Snow Day Camp for children ages 6-10.at four locations, including Audrey Moore RECenter in Annandale
Snow Day Camp will operate when Fairfax County Public Schools are closed two more school days in a row 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The cost is $65 per child.
It’s first come, first served, and there is a maximum of 30 children per site. Snow Day Camp will not be held when the Fairfax County government or Park Authority facilities are closed. It also won’t operate for single-day school closures, late openings, early dismissals, or on weekends.
Activities include games, sports, and arts and crafts. Children should bring a snack, lunch, and a drink. Camp will begin on the second consecutive all-day school closing.
Once the decision is made to operate a Snow Day Camp, a registration link will be placed on the Fairfax County Park Authority website. There’s also a link on the website to sign up for Snow Day Camp alerts.
This is a nice idea. Some FCPS school closures happen because transportation in the county's more remote cities is severely impaired (while towns closer to the Beltway are passable), but other times, the entire area is more-or-less shut down–especially when it comes to school buses. I'd like to know the thoughts of those who established this program in re: the potential impact of inviting people to travel on roads that are possibly dangerous?
