Just about everything in the new Lost Dog Café that opened
in Merrifield Sept. 6—the paintings on the wall, hostess podium, logo—has a
canine motif.

Some of the items on the menu even continue the dog theme:
The onion rings are called “dog collars,” the pizza choices include “pit bull
pie” (pastrami, ham, pepperoni, salami, red onions, jalapenos) and “pointer pie”
(pine nuts, spinach, tomatoes, feta cheese), and there’s a “sunny dog salad.”
For dessert, there’s a “bad dog a la mode” (chocolate fudge brownie with
vanilla ice cream and hot fudge) and a “good dog a la mode” (the same with
mint chocolate chip ice cream).

The dog theme started with the owners of the chain, Ross
Underwood and Pam McAlwee, who founded the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation
in 2001. The group holds pet adoption events every weekend at pet stores
throughout Northern Virginia, including the PetSmart in Seven Corners. Brian Bullock, the manager of the new Lost Dog Café, says the
foundation helps find homes for about 50 dogs and cats every week.

Is the food any good?
Is it dog friendly?
The food is great. Large selection of various sandwiches and pizzas. As well as a good selection of beers, if you like beer. They also do local delivery.
