The Starbucks Foundation awarded the Friends of Lake Accotink Park (FLAP) $1,000 from its Neighborhood Grants program, the Fairfax County Park Authority announced.

A local Starbucks employee nominated FLAP for the grant in recognition of its work to protect the natural and cultural resources and support projects and programmatic opportunities at Lake Accotink Park.

FLAP is an all-volunteer community-based organization, and 100 percent of all donations it receives support projects and programs within Lake Accotink Park, says FLAP President Mary Keeser.

The group organizes cleanups, maintains 11 dog waste stations, teaches classes at the pollinator garden, and helps plan community events at the park.

  1. Please use $50 from my $200 tax rebate check and the other 6 million Virginians who got rebates / to save Lake Accotink. That would be $300M. Use the rest to hire more police and enforce housing code in Fairfax
