Police Officer First Class Mario Colorado, the school resource officer at JEB Stuart High School, has been named the “distinguished SRO” for 2014-15 by Fairfax County Public Schools.
“Officer Mario Colorado has consistently demonstrated distinguished performance in the area of school safety and security and shows fervent commitment to our school community,” says Stuart Principal Penny Gros.
SROs are sworn Fairfax County police officers who are considered active members of their assigned school’s administrative team. According to a memorandum of understanding by FCPS and the Fairfax County Police Department, SROs are responsible for patrolling school grounds, coordinating police response to crimes on school property; monitoring social and cultural influences and activities in an effort to identify emerging youth gangs; and maintaining close communication with the principal on crime trends, problem areas, and cultural conflicts.
Great job!
