Student volunteer receives scholarship

Annandale Christian Community for Annandale, a coalition of local churches, presented its 2018 Making a Difference Award to Faiz Adem, a graduate of Annandale High School.

The annual award provides a $500 college scholarship and a plaque to a student who has given back to their community through volunteer service.

Adem came to the United States as a young child and became involved in numerous volunteer activities through the Lincolnia Community Center, including helping older adults with computer literacy. He also volunteered at Wesley Housings community center.

Adem will enroll in Northern Virginia Community College and then transfer to George Mason University where he plans to major in business administration with a minor in information technology, accounting, or sports management.

Jina Kim of the Evergreen Title Co. in Annandale underwrote the cost of the award.
