Study confirms economic benefits of Columbia Pike Streetcar
The benefits derive from property value increases and faster and more expansive development, leading to more jobs and more tax revenue—and that’s on top of the costs to build and operate the streetcar system. The study disputes the arguments of streetcar opponents who have insisted that better buses would provides just as much of a benefit at a lower cost.
The streetcar will run from the Skyline Center in Fairfax County, along Columbia Pike, to Crystal City in Arlington. Arlington County is expected to select a program management consultant this spring to oversee the streetcar design work.
I may be in a wheelchair by the time this thing gets built. Talk and no action!
Unfortunately the opposition has done a great job of misinformation. Hoping FTA provides some funding and this projects moves ahead by the end of year. This would a great shot in the arm for South Arlington and Bailey's x-roads. Investing in infrastructure is a no brainer.
Amen to both comments above! I have never heard Penny Gross try to promote the benefits that the streetcar will bring. She lies low out of fear of hearing from the naysayers but once it is built she will be there at the photo shoot. We need leaders out promoting Mason District and how great it could be so close to DC, etc. Isn't that what leaders are supposed to do, help the district they represent?
