Subway shops hit by burglars

Burglars have been targeting Subway sandwich shops throughout the D.C. region, Fairfax County Police reported. The most recent crime occurred Monday, April 7, at the Subway at 8960 Burke Lake Road, near Rolling Road.
Someone broke the door at around 2 a.m. and stole cash. The suspect is described as male, unknown race, wearing a light-colored hoodie and dark pants.
The description is similar to 27 other Subway restaurant burglaries since November 2013. Nine of the burglaries took place in Fairfax County. Others were in Alexandria and Maryland.

UPDATE posted May 7, 2014: Police arrested a suspect, Demond
Woodson, 39, of Howard County, Md., May 5 in connection with the Subway
burglaries. Woodson was apprehended at about 1 a.m. at a Subway on George
Avenue in Montgomery County, Md. He was
charged with nine counts of burglary and nine counts of grand larceny related
to 15 Subway burglaries in Fairfax County plus other charges in other
jurisdictions. He is being held in a Howard County jail.

The latest incident was reported at 4 a.m., April 28. Someone broke into the Subway at 8558 Lee Highway in the Merrifield area, stole cash, and fled. That brings the total of Subway burglaries in Fairfax County to 15.
