Supervisors approve convenience store at Ravensworth Shell station
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 25 approved a zoning special exception to allow Capital Services Inc. to convert the vehicle repair shop at the Ravensworth Shell station to a convenience store.
The service station is in the Ravensworth Shopping Center on Braddock Road. It was built in 1966.
The project also includes adding a second floor with 200 square feet of accessory office space, reconfiguring the two site entrances from Port Royal Road, installing landscape islands in the parking lot, and reconfiguring and restriping the lanes around the site. The existing gas pumps will remain.
The board approved a long list of development conditions, including the following:
- The northern curb cut on Port Royal Road must be redesigned and marked “right turn entry only, no exit.”
- Wrecked, inoperative, or abandoned vehicles must not be stored on the site.
- The accessory outdoor storage and display area for goods offered for sale must not exceed 50 square feet and must not block the sidewalk.
- The maximum gross floor area devoted to retail sales of food, beverages, and other items must not exceed 2,500 square feet.
- A bicycle rack for at least four bicycles must be installed within 50 feet of the main entrance.
- Landscaping must include noninvasive native plants.
- Space and infrastructure must be provided for two future electric vehicle charging stations.
