Board of Supervisors approves truck ban for Ravensworth Road

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution June 2 to ban through-truck traffic on Ravensworth Road between Little River Turnpike and Braddock Road.

The resolution was proposed by Mason Supervisor Penny Gross in response to complaints from people who live close to Ravensworth Road about safety and noise.

Only one person spoke at the BoS public hearing. David Wagoner of the Royal Homeowners Association in Annandale urged the board to approve the truck ban. He said he lives 43 feet from the curb and trucks are so noisy they rattle items on the wall and he has to sleep with earplugs.

The BoS will ask the Virginia Department of Transportation to take the necessary steps to enact the ban. “They will take several months to review it. We anticipate they will approve the ban,” said Gross. Trucks will be directed to use the beltway as an alternative route.

  1. Living on a busy street and demanding that no one drive by your house makes real sense. Real sense!

Just about every good you consume came off the back of a truck. Have some damn respect for that.

  2. You're assuming it was a transport truck. Not a dumptruck, flatbed towtruck, etc.. But you do have a point. How about we start going after all the Maryland plated cars around here that are clearly parked in FFX County, but registered in MD to avoid paying the taxes. I would put a wager on the fact that MOST of these cars probably belong to people that aren't paying federal taxes either.. At least get their CARS out of here..

    1. Dump truck? I hardly suppose Ravensworth road residents are going to refuse trash and recycling pickup, given that refuse companies use dump trucks.

Flatbed? Tow truck? Why, I have half a mind to go down to Ravensworth in my pickup and make a few laps up and down the street. I suppose they only want quiet hybrid and electric vehicles gracing their street.

And I am in full agreement with the Maryland plated cars. Get them OUT!

    2. @gyy – I agree with you 100%. I am amazed at how many cars drop children off at school with Maryland tags. They children are not only going to our schools driving the cost up but are also dodging the car tax. While on vacation in Myrtle Beach one year, we watched police write tickets to anyone with out of state tags trying to drop off children at school. Fairfax is loosing so much money by not enforcing this issue. Come on Fairfax – you are so desperate for money that instead of raising our property taxes start getting these out of state cars out of Virginia.

  3. I just don't get this. I have lived off of Ravensworth Rd. in the Ravensworth/Bristow neighborhood for 28+ years. I have NEVER had an issue with large trucks. The biggest trucks that use Ravensworth consistently are the fire and emergency vehicles and school busses. Maybe once in a while a moving van will come into the neighborhood, or a dump truck, or concrete truck going to a residence for a specific purpose. And trash trucks! Shall we just take it to the dump ourselves? What a waste of our tax payer money to have VDOT put up expensive signs and the police to write tickets….where are all of these trucks that this guy is talking about? MOVE if you don't like the noise and vibrations. I personally dislike the low flying helicopters going to and from Quantico.

  4. Still trying to recall the last time I saw the banned type of truck on Ravensworth…don't understand this at all.

    1. yeah I live off ravensworth and I haven't seen any semis either, u don't get it. I'm also not crazy up in arms about it either because really who cares.

  5. That is ridiculous! 1 person complains so all of a sudden a ban goes into effect? I live close to the road on heritage and hear fire trucks all the time, several tonight alone! Plus quite a few other louder vehicles. The price of living near a road is hearing traffic all the time! Get earplugs, get over it, or move! Lol, my friend lives off ravensworth and we were discussing this the other day too, there hardly seems to ever be through trucks on ravensworth… But peace of mind for this guy I guess.

  6. David Wagoner of the Royal Homeowners Association in Annandale came out and spoke. He lives 43 feet away from Ravensworth. This is 239 town house community where only handful, like so little of the entire association is on Ravensworth. Please visit association's website. This little parceled association just banned entire Ravensworth Road truck access. This action should have been circulated with everyone being effected.

    1. Living 43 feet away from a road, particularly a busy one, will warrant lots of road noise, trucks or not. It just will. He will have to campaign to ban ALL cut-through traffic to get the peace that he desires.

    2. Great I chose to live in a HOA free zone and still get affected by them HOA folks. Freedom, 'Merica!!
