Annandale Boys and Girls Club’s Annandale United FC 98G (known as Xtreme 98) was honored June 6 at the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting in recognition of the team’s achievement as the 2016-17 Virginia Youth Soccer Association State Cup Champion.
The core of the team has been together for almost 10 years and has gradually improved, eventually playing in the prestigious National League, says John Berlin. Later in June the team will move on to represent Virginia in the eastern regional competition.
Several Xtreme team members who are standouts on their high school soccer teams were named Spring 2017 All-Met by the Washington Post. Ana Heilferty of Stuart High School was named Player of the Year in girls’ soccer. All-Met Honorable Mention awards went to Jessica Berlin (Lake Braddock), Chloe Beverina (Stuart), and Mariana Hershner (Stuart).
