Suspicious incident involves child at bus stop

The Fairfax County Police Department is reporting a suspicious event involving a strange man approaching a child.

The child was waiting at a bus stop at 2900 John Marshall Drive in Seven Corners on April 3 when a man started talking to her. She ignored him and he walked away. The child reported the incident to a teacher at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School.

Further investigation revealed the same man was seen at a nearby park handing out food. The children said it tasted funny and stopped eating it. They were not harmed. The man is described as Hispanic, in his mid-40s, five feet six to five feet eight inches tall, of medium build, and with brown or black hair.

Sleepy Hollow Principal Eric Johnson sent an email to parents urging them to talk to their children about the need to be aware of their surroundings and avoid any seemingly dangerous situations. “Students should travel in pairs whenever possible and immediately report any suspicious behavior to a known adult or the police,” Johnson said.

Anyone who has any information about the most recent incident or sees anything suspicious should call the police non-emergency number, 703) 691-2131.
