SweetFrog is coming to Annandale

This boarded-up storefront at the Annandale Shopping Center between Collector’s World and Mathnasium is going to be a sweetFrog frozen yogurt shop.

It is expected to open in three to four months. “There are a lot of moving parts in getting our stores open so while we’re hopeful that’s the timeframe we’re looking at, there are many factors outside of our control that could delay this,” a sweetFrog spokesperson states.

SweetFrog customers choose a cup size, filling (soft-serve frozen yogurt, ice cream, or “icee”) and toppings (fruit, nuts, cereal, candy, sauce) and pay by weight.

Derek Cha opened the first sweetFrog shop in Richmond in 2009. He founded the company on Christian principles; Frog is an acronym for “fully rely on God.”

In 2014, sweetFrog Enterprises was acquired by Boxwood Capital Partners. Kahala Brands, a subsidiary of the MTY Food Group, acquired the company in 2018 for $35 million.

There are about 332 locations, including the Crossroads Center in Bailey’s Crossroads, Broad Street in Falls Church, and Old Keene Mill Road in Burke.

The sweetFrog website lists the new Annandale location as being on Meadow Court, but it’s actually on Columbia Pike.
