Swim team league cancels summer season

Swim meets, like this one at the Annandale Swim & Tennis Club, won’t be happening this summer.

The Northern Virginia Swimming League has canceled the 2020 season, the NVSL Executive Board
announced May 7.

“Despite our best efforts to gather as much
information about the implications of COVID-19 to confidently hold a potential
season, we have reached the difficult decision that the 2020 season must be
canceled,” the NVSL states. “We feel profound sadness knowing the
disappointment this will cause, but the decision was made to prioritize the
safety of our participants, supporters, and communities.”

Senior
swimmers and divers will have the opportunity to apply for 2020 NVSL
scholarships, and team dues will be fully refunded.

The
NVSL serves more than 17,000 swimmers and divers in 102 teams and 17 divisions.
This is the league’s 65th anniversary.
