Taco Ssam, the Mexican-Korean fusion restaurant in the Culmore Shopping Center on Leesburg Pike, is opening a new location in the retail plaza under construction on John Marr Drive in Annandale.
Owner Alex Lee hopes the new restaurant could open in time for Cinco de Mayo if all goes well with the contractors and permitting process. Lee says the restaurant will offer full service with waitstaff and a full bar post-COVID.
The Taco Ssam menu features Korean tacos, with such fillings as galbi, bulgoki, and pork belly, as well as traditional Mexican items. Lee says the new restaurant will have a wider selection of Korean fare, reflecting its Annandale location.
“We make our corn tortillas fresh every day,” Lee says. “Any taqueria, if they’re serious about tacos, has to make them on site.”
“Ssam” means “wrapped” in Korean (usually meat wrapped in lettuce), and that makes it similar to a taco.
Bulgogi in tacos? Will the amazing wonders never cease? Thanks for reporting this good news!
Da Moim used to do a lot of Korean fusion and had some legit bulgogi tacos. Haven’t been there in forever though.
If you want Bulgogi tacos now, go to Bebop in Fairfax. It's a Korean Mexican fusion place with bowls, tacos, and burritos.
I had their tacos in Bailys Crossroad, their first outpost. I personally thought they were just ok, but I will try their other tacos. I think it will be a popular place to go to here next to The Block.
