Descano clears officer in shooting incident
Fairfax County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano issued a report stating that an undercover police officer was justified in shooting a suspect Aug. 2 in Seven Corners. There were 20 fatal opioid overdoses and 205 non-fatal overdoses during the first quarter of 2022 in the Fairfax Health District. That’s down from 31 fatal overdoses in the first quarter of 2021. Man convicted of fentanyl distribution
A federal jury convicted a Prince William County man Sept. 21 for distributing fentanyl resulting in death and serious injury, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia reports. Planning Commission endorses expanding substance abuse treatments at Seven Corners mental hospital
Dominion Hospital The Fairfax County Planning Commission approved a zoning special exception Oct. 27 to allow Dominion Hospital in Seven Corners to treat patients whose only medical condition is substance abuse. Under current development conditions, the facility can only treat people for drug and alcohol dependency if they also have a psychiatric diagnosis.
Police collect expired, unneeded prescription drugs
Unneeded and expired medications can be dropped off any time at the Mason Government Center. Community members turned in 174 pounds of expired or unneeded medications at the Mason District Police Station on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 23. Virginia legislature passes bill on legalizing recreational marijuana
Virginia lawmakers approved legislation to legalize marijuana for recreational use, beginning in 2024. Gov.
