Taste of Annandale 5K canceled

Runners take off at the 2019 Taste of Annandale 5K.

After canceling the 2020 Taste of Annandale, the Annandale Roundtable had hoped to at least hold the 5K Race.

That will not happen. The group has decided that there are just too many challenges to try to have a community event when there’s a strong possibility we will still be in the midst of the COVID pandemic. The Taste of Annandale 5K had been scheduled for Oct. 3.
A key factor in that decision was the shift of the Marine Corp Marathon on  Oct. 23-25 to a virtual-only event.
“Our race had a number of significant headwinds to overcome,” says Annandale Roundtable Chair Bob Kahane. “These challenges include the costs for insurance, permits, publicity, police support, and other numerous expenses.”
“These cost problems might have been overcome,” Kahane says, “but the litigation and health risk from COVID and the potential negative impact on attendance, sponsorship, and community participation makes the risks-versus-reward equation skewed too far against a successful event.”
Hopefully. there will be a vaccine available next year, so the planning team will be working on a bigger and better Taste of Annandale and 5K in 2021.
