Thai street markets coming to Annandale

The NVA Thai Center is launching a monthly market featuring Thai food, crafts, and performances at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space in the center of Annandale.
The first one is scheduled for May 11, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The Eileen Garnett park, at 7200 Columbia Pike, is the same location where the 2025 Taste of Annandale will be held on Sept. 20.
The Thai market will have about 25 to 30 food vendors and 10 to 15 other vendors offering jewelry, crochet items, and other handicrafts, says Project Manager Ruchchai Komol.
There will also be live music and a demonstration of Muay Thai, a type of boxing from Thailand.
The event is free. Parking is available at the Annandale Fire Station next door.

The first market in Annandale will be more like a soft opening, Komol says. The next one, on June 15, will have more entertainment, including traditional dance performances, a fashion show, cultural displays, and Thai language demonstrations, as well as Muay Thai.
The markets started two years ago at the Wat Yarnna Rangcee Buddhist Monastery in Sterling, Komol says. But they shortly outgrew the space, so the markets were relocated to the City of Manassas Museum last year. The Annandale events will be in addition to the monthly markets in Manassas.
The NVA Thai Street Food Market is separate from the free monthly Asiantique night markets behind the Elmer Timberman Masonic Lodge at 6911 Columbia Pike, Annandale, which also features Thai food vendors. The next one is May 25, 5-9 p.m.
The night markets are organized by Annandale immigration attorney Nelson Figueroa Velez to raise funds for child victims of human trafficking.
