The DC Divas, a women’s professional football team, now plays here in Mason District at the
St. James sports facility. Their next home
game is tonight, at 7:30, against the Tampa Bay Inferno.
This is full-contact football, not flag football or the Legends
Football League (founded as the Lingerie League).

The DC Divas are three-time national champions in the Women’s Football Alliance, which has 64 teams in three divisions. The Divas are
currently ranked second in the Northeast Region, behind the Boston Renegades.

The women on the Divas team wear are the same colors as the
Washington Redskins – burgundy and gold, with maroon helmets. Many of the
players are from the D.C. area.
When
the team was formed in 2001, DC Diva games were played at Eastern High School, across
the street from RFK stadium. They later moved to high schools in Springfield,
then to the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Md.,
next to FedEx Field.
The
team’s new owner, Rich Daniel, the former general manager, wanted to move the
team back to Virginia, so he got them into the St. James for their current season,
which started April 13.

facility and health club on Industrial Drive in Springfield, opened last
fall.

DC Divas coach Allysea Marfull, a former player on the team, is
the manager of the Vim & Victor restaurant at the St. James, which is run by well-known executive
chef is Spike Mendelsohn.

Anyone can attend a DC Divas game, even if you’re not a member
of the St. James. Tickets are available at the game or can be purchased online.
Seating is general admission bleacher seats in an air-conditioned
facility. Prices range from $10 to $30 per person per game, and there is a VIP
option.
Concessions are available, including beer and wine. Pizza and
other items can also be purchased and brought in or ordered from Vim &
Victor.

Parking is free; I have not seen any tailgating so far. There
is media coverage of the games including a crew videotaping along with
broadcasters and a portable production facility.

Since the season started, the team has already played two of
their four home games. If you miss the May 4 game, you can catch the Divas May
25 at the St. James, where they’re up against the Columbus Comets.
If the season goes well for them, there should be a home playoff
game or two in July.

  1. Thank you Dan. We may well host a playoff game on June 29. The Super Bowl is in Denver July 13.
