The Halal Depot specializes in imported food

The Halal Depot, a relatively new grocery store in Bailey’s Crossroads, offers the neighborhood a variety of products imported from the Middle East and Southeast Asia, freshly butchered halal meat, baked goods, spices, teas, pickles, and much more.

The store is located at 5606 Scoville Street in the Skyline area.

Dried fruits and nuts.

The owner, Nadim Azimi, was a contractor for the U.S. military in Afghanistan before emigrating to the U.S. 11 years ago. He also owns the Kabul Shop in the Somali Mall at 3536 Carlin Springs Road in Bailey’s Crossroads.

Some of the items on the shelves at Halal Depot include whole cardamom from India, saffron from Afghanistan, halva from Turkey, huge bags of rice, olives from Turkey, pickled turnips and ginger, halloumi from Cyprus, whole wheat flour from the United Arab Emirates, and basmati rice from Pakistan.

Lots of olives and pickled items.

“We have products from all over the world,” Azimi says. “There’s something for everyone.”

  1. Building formerly housing a small group of shops and services catering mostly to the ethnic community there, and the Twist Lounge. Looks like a big improvement!

I don’t think I need anything they have there, but I bet it will do very well!

    1. Or am I lost? The opposite side is supposed to be a pizza parlor that opened in 2022. Is this new construction, or is it the building I am thinking of?

  2. Do they have a location in the Chicagoland area ? I’ve been wondering about where they a store that sells halal foods close to where I live, and at reasonable prices since I am living in a halal desert it seems.

    1. You are reading a local blog for a small town in Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. The only thing we know about this new business opening is what we have read in this announcement, same as you.

I would suggest contacting the business directly to ask them if they have a store in Chicago, Illinois.

  3. We also have mainstream Americans living in this area. Please attract stores for everyone as well as ethnic individuals. You represent the ENTIRE area, not one or two ethnicities who continue to vote for you. Such politicians and non-talented “leadership.”
