The St. James launches an academic program for elite student athletes
Families with elite student-athletes struggling to find time for practices, training, and school now have a solution.
The St. James, the sports complex on Industrial Road in the Springfield area of Mason District, will offer an academic program, beginning next fall, integrated with students’ athletic schedules.
The facility has formed a partnership with the TPH Academy to offer a rigorous college prep virtual program for students in grades 6-12 receiving specialized training at the St. James in figure skating, basketball, field hockey, golf, or other sports.
The St. James Performance Academy’s daily schedule will balance academics, athletics, and personal development. Participating students will receive professional coaching, nutritional guidance, performance recovery, and injury-prevention measures.
“The core of the personalized instruction will be delivered online with support and engagement by onsite classroom educators at The St. James, charged with ensuring academic success and providing a seamless experience for athletes,” says Allyson Musci of The St. James marketing department.
Annual tuition for the St. James Performance Academy is $27,999.
According to Musci, The St. James has received nearly 50 applications for the academy so far, and over 300 families have expressed interest.
The St. James is hosting a virtual information session on the academy on May 30 at 8 p.m. Register for the meeting here.
The 450,000-square foot facility offers state-of-the-art sports facilities, including a FIFA-regulation-size field house, two NHL-size ice rinks, an Olympic-size swimming pool, four regulation-size basketball courts that can be transformed into nine volleyball courts, golf simulators, and more.
The St. James Performance Academy gives aspiring athletes “a platform that appreciates and supports their educational needs while not compromising the intensity and quality of their athletic training,” says St. James Co-CEO Craig Dixon.
“We understand the dual aspirations of student-athletes who wish to excel in their academic endeavors while pushing the boundaries of their athletic potential,” says Co-CEO Kendrick Ashton. “Our collaboration with TPH Academy is a seminal development towards nurturing the next generation of scholars and champions.”
Someone should make a documentary about how the two black men came up with this successful endeavor. Seriously inspiring.
Someone should be you, some guy. It’s your idea 💡!
