Fire damage at a house on Murdock Road.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units put out three fires in the broader Annandale/Mason area within the past four days.

A fire at a townhouse at 6518 Medinah Lane in the Pinecrest neighborhood on the afternoon of Feb. 17 was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes. No one was at home when the fire broke out. Three adults have been displaced, and three dogs perished in the fire. The residents declined assistance from the Red Cross.

Fire investigators report the fire was accidental and was cause by a faulty electrical strip. Damage is estimated at $212,000.

A fire in the afternoon of Feb. 14 damaged a single-family house at 9102 Murdock Road in Fairfax, just west of Annandale.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the eaves and roof the house and brought the fire under control in 20 minutes. Two adults and one child were displaced. They also declined Red Cross support. No one was injured. An electrical anomaly in the attic caused the fire, which resulted in $150,000 worth of damages.

On Feb. 15, Fairfax County firefighters responded to an apartment fire on the sixth-floor balcony at approximately 4:20 a.m. at Skyline Center at 3709 S. George Mason Drive in Bailey’s Crossroads. The fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials in a flower pot on the balcony. The damage estimate is $10,000.

The apartment had working smoke alarms and sprinklers, but they didn’t activate due to the “light volume of fire and the quick responsiveness of firefighters,” the FCFRD reports. One occupant was displaced but declined Red Cross support. There were no injuries.
