Three-alarm fire at apartment in Lincolnia

The fire started in a unit on the top floor. When
firefighters arrived, at about 3:30 p.m., they saw flames on the roof. People were
evacuated from two apartments that are considered uninhabitable, due to water
damage and the collapse of the ceiling. The Red Cross provided assistance to four adults and one infant.
Zoldos called it “pretty impressive”
that only two apartments were severely damaged.

The fire started in a bedroom and quickly spread to the attic area above. Fire investigators estimate damage at $167,500. The cause of the fire hasn’t yet been determined.
The fire was discovered by three Fairfax County police officers patrolling the area. They knocked on doors in the building to evacuate residents, while waiting for fire units to arrive.
Crossroads, Merrifield, Arlington, and Alexandria subsequently responded. Approximately 90 firefighters were on the scene.
There was a major fire at Morningside two years ago.
