Annandale welcomed the holiday season with a tree-lighting ceremony Friday evening at Tollhouse Park on Little River Turnpike. The event, presented by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce, featured the Knights of Columbus color guard, Christmas carols, and a visit from Santa.
Performers included Mitra Gholam, a jazz student at Northern Virginia Community College and member of the Reunion Music Society, the Poe Carolers from Poe Middle School, and Poe sixth-grader John Lopez. Chamber President Gavin Dock spoke about the importance of community.
Among the attendees were Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bulova and supervisors Penny Gross (Mason) and John Cook (Braddock).
After the lights went up on the tree across the street, the crowd headed over to a reception at Burke and Herbert Bank.
