Tornado damages property at Thomas Jefferson High School

A tornado touched down briefly at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology at 4:54 a.m. July 24, the National Weather Service confirmed.
The EF-0 tornado lasted about one minute. According to the NWS, it “touched down briefly just south of the softball field, damaging fences, two sheds, light poles, and several trees. A shipping container was lofted over 100 yards as the tornado crossed the softball field moving northeast over an adjacent athletic field. The tornado then lifted over the northeastern part of the school property.”

The tornado’s estimated maximum wind speed was 70 mph. Its path was a quarter of a mile, and its maximum width was 100 yards. There were no injuries.
Earlier, the NWS issued a tornado warning for the area around Lake Barcroft and Lincolnia.
