A traffic stop in the eastern end of Mason District led to narcotics and weapons charges, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.
When police stopped a Volkswagen sedan in the 4900 block of Oasis Drive just after 1 a.m. on Sept. 7, the officer detected a marijuana odor. As police started to search the vehicle, the passenger, Dewey Carpenter, a 22-year-old from Miami, Fla., attempted to flee.
When Carpenter was taken into custody and searched, police found narcotics in his pants. He head-butted the officer who was putting him into the back of the police car. A search of the vehicle netted a pistol and more than $10,000 in cash.
Carpenter was taken to the Adult Detention Center where he was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of a firearm with a narcotic, attempt to flee from a law enforcement officer, assault on a law enforcement officer, and obstruction of justice.
In other news from the Police Department, Johnny Ngo, 20, of Woodbridge, was identified as the suspect who brandished a firearm in the parking lot of The Block in Annandale on April 17. Ngo is being charged with abduction, attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and brandishing. Ngo awaits extradition after being arrested in Richmond Sept. 6.
Police also report a commercial burglary at around 3 a.m. on Sept. 5. Three men forced entry inside a business in the 5800 block of Seminary Road in Bailey’s Crossroads and attempted to take cash from an ATM machine. They were unsuccessful and fled in a car. The suspects were of unknown race and had their faces covered.
Police are investigating reports of gunshots heard shortly after midnight on Sept. 7 in the 3800 block of Birchwood Road in the Falls Church area of Mason District. Shell casings were found later by a resident. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Mason Police District Station, 703-256-8035.
