Trophy Mart moving out of Annandale
Longtime Annandale institution Trophy Mart is moving because “we are outgrowing our space” at 7221 Little River Turnpike, says store employee Jessica Cangemi. “We are looking for a larger, more accessible space,” added Josh Perelman, the store’s manager.
Trophy Mart, founded in Washington, D.C., in 1951, sells all sorts of awards, plaques, and promotional products, as well as trophies. New locations in Fairfax, Merrifield, and Alexandria are under review. When a decision is made, it will be posted on the store’s Facebook page, Cangemi says.
The store has been in its current location for 25 to 30 years, Perelman says. The two-story building had once been a boarding house, and either that building or the one next to it had housed Annandale’s first post office, he notes.
It’s ironic that the store that has provided trophies to generations of Annandale-based sports teams is closing at the same time as Fuddruckers, where so many of those trophies have been presented during team parties.
Didnt they start out in the Columbia Pike strip, next to Arcade Electronics and the barber shop? Or was that a different trophy shop?
No idea what ought to go there.
Maybe a shelter and pickup place for the numerous illegal alien day workers that infest LRT from that point west?
I think you might be referring to the Annandale Team Sports shop (not sure of the name) that used to sell team jerseys and stuff like that. I've lived in Annandale for decades and don't remember Arcade Electronics.
