Truck ban proposed for Ravensworth
Pothole-ridden Ravensworth Road in Annandale could get some relief if the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approves a proposal to ban trucks.
The BoS has scheduled a public hearing for June 2, 4 p.m., on a proposal to restrict through-truck traffic on Ravensworth between Little River Turnpike and Braddock Road as part of the country’s Residential Traffic Administrative Program (RTAP).
The truck ban was proposed in response to complaints about noise and vibrations from the Elan Mews/Royal Court Homeowners Association, said Steve Knudsen, a planner with the Fairfax County Department of Transportation. Mason Supervisor Penny Gross has been invited to speak about the truck ban, along with her proposal to establish a Community Parking District covering all of Mason District, at a June 1 meeting of the Lafayette Park West and Royal homeowners associations.
The beltway would be considered the alternative route for trucks. The restriction would only apply to trucks traveling the entire distance on Ravensworth Road, not to trucks heading to a side street. Pickup and panel trucks would be exempt from the truck ban.

Is there a truck ban on Old Columbia Pike?
I second, and third, and forth that!!! It has always amazed me which roads they choose to keep maintained. Last year Columbia Pk was completely re-paved, and it wasn't bad at all…?? Then you have Old Columbia Pk, which hasn't been done in decades and is basically undriveable
Nope! Columbia Pike is worse than Ravensworth. We have speed bumps AND monster pot holes.
If VDOT would spend the extra sales tax money that we send down there on NOVA transportation, like they are supposed to, than maybe our roads wouldn't look like they belong in downtown Baghdad.

I called VDOT about old col pike two weeks ago. They got someone out to fill some of the holes. It's still horrendous as is Evergreen and needs a complete makeover.
Thanks, Rob. I will call them, too. Even with pothole patching, it still is a bumpy, bumpy ride. It needs to be resurfaced.
I have never noticed alot of trucks on Ravensworth Road and I am on that road several times a day.
I live along Ravensworth Road and we have large trucks, including large fuel tankers, rumbling through regularly, including early in the morning, waking everyone up who lives close to the road. There are houses within 50 feet of the road near the Jayhawk intersection and I can tell you they are sick of the noise and the speeding traffic.
