‘Trunk ‘n Treat’: another way to celebrate Halloween

From the left: Sam Loeffler (Neo from “The Matrix”), Landon Gates (zombie), Benjy Loeffler (Boba Fett from “Star Wars”), and Warner Gates (detective). Warner goes to Glasgow Middle School; the others are at Bailey’s Elementary School.

Local families got an early start on Halloween at the Trunk ’n
Treat event Sunday evening in the parking lot of Peace Lutheran Church on
Lincolnia Road. Parents handed out candy from decorated car trunks to kids in
costume.

Although Trunk ’n Treat is considered a safer option than
door-to-door trick or treating, it’s an addition, not an alternative, to the
traditional Halloween night activity, said organizer Lynnette Gates of Parklawn. Trunk
’n Treat is a growing trend, with these events turning up all over the country. The Edsall Park community had one, too.

Rev. Sarah Scherschligt of Peace Lutheran Church hands out treats.
An evil jester, Neo, ghostbuster, zombie, robot, detective, knight, princess, Boba Fett, and swamp thing round out the Trunk ‘n Treat crowd.
