Both Annandale and JEB Stuart high schools are getting new synthetic turf fields.
Construction on synthetic turf fields at Annandale High School is scheduled to begin May 15, reports Principal Vincent Randazzo. Construction crews will begin excavating the track field first, which will make Four Year Run a work zone, so people driving and walking on that route will require extra attention, he warns.
The other new turf field will be installed in the football stadium. The school is also getting a new score board.
The fields should be completed by August, says Terry Adams, president-elect of the AHS Athletic Booster Club. The club raised thousands of dollars to support the project, ranging from $5 donations to a significant contribution from the Annandale Boys and Girls Club.
“It was really a community effort to support the new turf fields,” Adams says, and more contributions are needed to support maintenance of the new fields.
The Booster Club is sponsoring “A Night at the Pool” fundraiser on June 6 to “celebrate all things Annandale and the community spirit we love” while supporting AHS athletes, coaches, and teams.
The adult-only event, at the Lincolnia Park Recreation Club, 6501 Montrose St., next to Holmes Middle School, 6:30-10 p.m., will feature beer and wine tasting, light appetizers, live music, a silent auction and raffle prizes. Tickets are $30 if purchased online and $35 at the door. For more information, contact Terry Adams, [email protected].
Construction of two new turf fields at Stuart High School is scheduled to begin in June, reports Donna Carter, Raider Athletic Booster president, in a message thanking Stuart alumni, students, parents, and community members for their contributions and school board member Sandy Evans for her advocacy in getting this project approved.
“Now the majority of our athletes can practice on our fields versus being bused to other locations, Carter says. “And we will not lose gate revenue due to games being moved to turf fields due to rain.
The Stuart community will have raise $15,000 for maintaining the turf fields, she says, so the booster club is organizing a series of fundraising activities, including leaf raking, tree sales, and brick sales.
This might be better for the band people, that platform will be more stable on turf when Coach Scott tries to huff and puff and blow it down.
