Two dogs die in house fire
Two dogs perished in a house fire May 15 in the 3100 block of Dashiell Road in the Bel Air community in Mason District, the Fairfax County Fire Department reports.
The residents weren’t home when the fire started. A neighbor called 911 at about 9 a.m. [The photo is from a video taken by the neighbor.]
Fire and smoke were showing from the rear of the two-story, single-family home when fire units from Arlington and Fairfax counties arrived. The fire was primarily on the outside of the house although it did spread inside.
Fire investigators determined the fire started on a covered deck at the rear of the house and was caused by an electrical malfunction in a refrigerator. Damages are estimated at $143,750.
The fire displaced two adults and two juveniles, who accepted assistance from the Red Cross.
The family lost everything, says a neighbor who created a GoFundMe account to help them and says “no donation is too small.”
