Two pedestrians were seriously injured when struck by car in Bailey’s Crossroads June 15, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.
Two men from the Alexandria area were walking near a strip mall by the 3800 block of S. George Mason near the Skyline Center at about 2:50 p.m. when they were struck by a Honda Odyssey minivan.
One of the men, 44 was thrown to the ground; the other, 63, was pinned against the brick wall of a building. Both were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
The older man had severe open wounds, open lacerations, and life-threatening injuries. Before emergency medical responders arrived, PFC Angela Thomas applied a tourniquet from her “go bag” kit to stop the heavy flow of blood. According to on-scene police supervisors, she likely assisted in saving the man’s life.
The investigation is continuing; charges have not yet been placed against the driver.
Very sad, shocking to know the details of the accident. It happened minutes after I left the block. When I return to pickup something, the area was full of ambulances. I believe this is a reckless drive case. My prayer to the victim and his family
Many many thanks to the female officer who was first responder, and handled the situation professionally
