Unattended candle causes house fire

A house fire in the 4000 block Doveville Lane in the Wakefield area was caused by an unattended candle, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

The fire started shortly after 10 a.m. on Dec. 4 in a one-story, single-family home. The candle was in the living room, where it ignited a lampshade and spread to a couch. 

One occupant attempted, unsuccessfully, to put out the fire then called 911. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

The fire caused approximately $37,000 dollars in damages, the Fire Department reports.
