Unattended cooking pot causes condo fire

An unattended cooking pot caused a fire in a unit on the eighth floor of the Woodlake Towers Condominium in the 3100 block of S. Manchester Street in Bailey’s Crossroads Dec. 9. 

According to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, a tenant had been warming a pot of cooking oil shortly before 1 p.m. when he left the unit. The neighbors smelled something burning and called 911. The fire caused approximately $50,000 in damages but didn’t spread to any other units. No one was injured.
