Unattended food cooking on stove causes house fire

A house fire in the 6400 block of Lincolnia Road on Nov. 3 caused an estimated $93,750 in damages, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.

When firefighters arrived shortly after 5 p.m., they saw smoke showing from the rear of the two-story, single-family home.

They fire started in the kitchen and was caused by unattended food cooking on the stove. One firefighter was transported for medical evaluation.

Four occupants were displaced. They declined assistance from the Red Cross. The occupant who was at home when the fire started was alerted by a smoke alarm and left before the fire units arrived.
