Digitize your memory collection at the library

You can now convert your old collection of family photos and the like for free at the new Memory Depot at George Mason Regional Library in Annandale.

Memory Depot is a do-it-yourself station for digitizing old photos, videos, scrapbooks, audio cassettes, or other materials. You’ll need to bring an external hard drive, DVD, or a USB flash drive with sufficient capacity.

People interested in using the Memory Depot are encouraged to sign up in advance for an orientation session, Tuesdays at 7 p.m. or Fridays at 10 a.m. Sign up in person at the library’s information desk, call the library at 703-256-3800 ext. 4, or register online.

The Memory Depot has the following equipment:

• An Epson 12000XL flatbed scanner for scanning photos, slides, negatives, and other documents to a DVD, an external hard drive, or USB flash drive.
• Elgato Video Capture for saving old video-taped memories to a DVD or an external hard drive.
• A Feir Cassette Converter to convert audio cassettes to an MP3 file on a USB flash drive.

Fairfax County Public Libraries launched Memory Depots at the City of Fairfax and Sherwood regional libraries in July 2018.
