VDOT to improve Little River Turnpike/Guinea Road intersection
Improvements are in the works for the Guinea Road intersection on Little River Turnpike just west of Annandale.
Representatives from the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation will describe the changes at a virtual community meeting March 1 at 7 p.m.

The project, aimed at improving traffic flow and increasing pedestrian safety, includes:
- A new free-flow right-turn lane from northbound Guinea Road to eastbound Little River Turnpike to help relieve backups.
- A new pedestrian island at the southern end of the intersection.
- Restriping to create a new through/right-turn lane on eastbound Little River Turnpike between Guinea Road and Old Hickory Road.
In this area, Little River Turnpike averages about 41,000 vehicles a day and Guinea Road averages 9,400.
Work is expected to start in April, and the project should be finished this summer.
The total project cost, $366,000, is funded by the state. That includes $164,000 for preliminary engineering and $202,000 for construction.
The public is encouraged to take an online survey on the project or email comments to [email protected] by March 11.
