The Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club invites the community to participate in a meal-packaging event to assemble 15,000 meals for the needy.
The event, co-hosted by Arlington Moose Lodge 131 and the Outreach Program, is Jan. 5, noon-2 p.m., at the Moose Lodge, 5710 Scoville St., Falls Church. To participate, sign up online.
The packaged meals will be distributed to food banks and to principals at Bailey’s Crossroads schools so students can bring them home when schools are closed due to inclement weather.
This event is appropriate for middle and high school students who need community service hours, as well as adults. Younger children can participate, too, but must be accompanied by an adult.
Volunteers will form an assembly line to package the meals. They will scoop ingredients into bags, weigh the bags on a scale, seal the bags, put stickers on them, and put the bags in boxes for delivery to a food bank.
Volunteers are invited to stay for the Moose Lodge’s annual Oktoberfest in Winter party immediately following the meal packaging. Student volunteers are invited to stay for the Oktoberfest for free as guests of the Moose Lodge.
